Trying To Conceive Baby # 2 has proved even harder than last time. After a wonderful first year with our son, Elijah and I decided to do in vitro fertilization again. We hoped that Isaiah and our second baby (or babies) would be about 2 years apart. I breastfed Isaiah until he was a year old and then had to weane him in order to start my infertility medications. In August/September 2005 we began our 2nd IVF cycle. I was extremely optimistic that since IVF worked for me the first time that I would get pregnant again. Well, right before my birthday I was devestated to find out that I did not conceive. I also did not have any frozen embryos. In November/December 2005 we went through our 3rd IVF cycle. For the first time, I had enough good embryos that I was able to freeze 3 for future use. A few days before Christmas I discovered that once again my IVF cycle failed. It made the holidays very sad for me. The next attempt was a frozen embryo transfer (FET) in February/March. I went to my beta and got a phone call that it was positive! Elijah and I were so happy...but, that was short lived. We endured almost 2 weeks of betas and finally an ultrasound that told us that the pregnancy was not viable. In April/May we decided to do another fresh IVF cycle. The cycle went very well and we transferred 3 embryos and froze 2 embryos. On Mother's Day, I tested positive. It was the best Mother's Day gift I could get. I was sure that this time I would get my take home baby. That was not to be either. I had another series of erratic betas and finally an ultrasound that showed a possible ectopic and/or abnormal uterine pregnancy.

Now, we are at a crossroads. We are discussing adoption and more testing to determine why I got pregnant with my son on my first IVF attempt only to have 2 failures and 2 miscarriages since he was born. We plan to pursue both avenues for now and see where God and fate lead us. We want Isaiah to be a big brother and we know that somehow we will be blessed with another baby.
